The Public Works Department provides direct service to citizens through the provision of solid waste collection & disposal, water & sewer utilities, fire protection system, road & drainage repair, mosquito control, beach cleaning, and street sweeping.
Also, the Department is responsible for planning, management, construction, and maintenance of the City's infrastructure. These indirect services are often unseen but are vital to our mission to ensure that the needs for growth and development are met while minimizing the impact on existing residents.
The Public Works Department is comprised of four Operating Divisions:
The Water and Sewer Division is operated as an enterprise fund for the city and is not supported by the General Fund tax dollars. In addition, capital projects are funded by impact fees assessed on new construction.
Water & Sewer Division provides the following services:
Operate and maintain drinking water distribution system, including pipes, pumps and valves, to provide continuous, uninterrupted service.
Install and maintain customer service connections
Investigate water quality, quantity, and/or pressure complaints
Install water & sewer line extensions to serve new customers
A short report from your water supplier will tell you what is in your tap water. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires water suppliers to deliver annual water quality reports to their customers. These reports are being mailed to all accounts that are billed for water service. If you receive water from the City of North Myrtle Beach, but do not receive a bill, please call the Department of Public Works at 843-280-5500 to receive a copy or click for PDF version
